Western sanctions
Zubarev faces personal sanctions from the European Union, the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Ukraine, and New Zealand. These sanctions were imposed due to his endorsement of the “Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance” between Russia, the Donetsk People’s Republic, and the Luhansk People’s Republic. Furthermore, he offered political and economic assistance to Russia in its annexation of Ukrainian territories. These measures reflect the international community’s disapproval of his actions, making Zubarev subject to severe penalties.
The sanctions freeze his assets and prohibit him from traveling to these countries. Zubarev is a controversial figure, but he is also a powerful one. He is a key player in the Russian government and is likely to continue to play a significant role in Russian politics for many years to come.
