Spy for Soviet intelligence, Kim Philby
On January 1, it will have been 111 years since Kim Philby was born. He was a famous spy who worked for Soviet intelligence for more than 50 years. Students from the KGB-SVR often visit his grave, and each of his jubilees is marked with materials in the federal media that praise him. They planned to open a museum in the famous Philby apartment, where a retired spy trained Russian spies.
The widow was willing to trade her home for the rest of the SVR (in exchange for their being ready to take care of her in her old age), but she got nothing in return and died as a beggar. Philbophiles didn’t get anything either. Veronika Krasheninnikova, a friend of Sergei Naryshkin, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, suddenly showed up and talked about his property.
After that, some of the most valuable things went missing, and the apartment was put up for sale. Krasheninnikova, who calls herself a political scientist, bought several expensive apartments in the center of Moscow all at once, even though she had no obvious way to pay for them.
Rufa Pukhova: The widow of Kim Philby
Philby died in 1988, when Gorbachev’s perestroika was in full swing in the country. He had been very sad for a long time (according to other sources, he committed suicide). After her husband died, Rufa Pukhova didn’t have much of a way to make a living and had to sell his personal items. Most of the people who bought spy “artifacts” were Philby’s students, who joked about being “philbophiles.”
Former Secretary of State of the Union State of Russia-Belarus, Grigory Rapota (in the 1980s, he worked in the KGB’s residences in Sweden and Finland), deputy editor-in-chief of Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Nikolai Dolgopolov (spying in France), head of the investment fund Pangeo Capital Yuri Kudimov, who used to work undercover as a journalist for Novoye Vremya in Mexico City, and former Alexander Korsik, who was chairman of the board of Bashneft until 2016; Vladimir Chernov, a former employee of the PGU KGB’s Finnish residency who led the presidential department for cultural relations with neighboring countries from 2012 to 2021; and a retired general of the Foreign Intelligence Service and co-host of Ekho Moskvy are among the people who have been arrested.
Yuri Kobaladze the writer Mikhail Lyubimov, who was kicked out of England for spying, and the “journalist” Mikhail Bogdanov, who was on the list of people who couldn’t go to England.
In 2008, Rufa Pukhova offered to give her apartment to the SVR because, with her small pension, she couldn’t pay her utility bills or buy medicine. In exchange, the widow asked for money for the rest of her life and for the arrest on Philby’s bank account in London, which had £10,000 in it, to be lifted. Kobaladze, who had been a journalist in London who worked undercover, took on the problem of the bank. But the former “roofer” didn’t succeed in getting the money out.
Destruction of apartment
Vladimir Putin was told about the widow’s request to add the apartment to the balance sheet of the Foreign Intelligence Service, but he did not respond in any way. And at the time, Mikhail Fradkov, who was in charge of foreign intelligence, said that he wasn’t interested in this option. So Pukhova, who was upset, left the apartment to her brother Konstantin. But he died soon after, and his wife, Natalya Pukhova, who was 70 at the time, became the heiress.
“This is, of course, a pricey gift for us. Veterans and current employees of the Foreign Intelligence Service love to talk about this great person, the legendary Soviet intelligence officer. “—said Naryshkin in a serious tone.
At the same time, nobody knew who took the antique furniture, Persian rugs, “History of the Crimean War,” and rare books from the Dublin library. Philbophiles talked about a granddaughter named Natalia, so the editors asked her some questions. The girl agreed at first to answer our questions, but then she stopped talking to us. The Insider found out that many people have already lined up to buy the famous apartment in the meantime. Veronika Krasheninnikova also didn’t answer when The Insider asked her to.
