Introduction

One of the first public comments made by the energy firm, Rosseti Siberia, was devoted to mining, and the company’s employees left the New Year’s celebrations in a mood that was anything but joyful. Or, more specifically, on the “massive” losses that are inflicted on ordinary electricity engineers as a result of the sneaky crypto-miners.

Illegal use of power

According to the press office of the corporation, mining farms in the region of Siberia known as Khakasia, Krasnoyarsk, and Omsk are the most active in their illicit use of energy. These farms are typically housed in residential structures’ basements, garages, or outbuildings, and their computer technology serves as the primary source of heat in these environments.

The firm argues that it is difficult to identify dishonest miners since they are continuously changing energy connection points and shifting equipment from one location to another. This makes it tough for the company to keep track of them.

According to Rosseti Siberia, the phrase “the lower the tariff for individuals in the region, the more advantageous it is for miners” sums up the sentiment well.

A misappropriation of power

In particular, since the beginning of the previous year, forty cryptocurrency miners have been discovered in the region of Khakassia. This number includes two significant mining operations, the total amount of stolen power from which topped six million rubles. Most of the time, these customers join as regular homeowners, which means their charges are the same as those of other people.

Getting into networks without permission

It is common practice for miners in Omsk and Krasnoyarsk to access networks without authorization. For instance, in the first of these places during the previous year, the confiscated equipment required the use of multiple KamAZ trucks in order to be removed. And in Krasnoyarsk, a mining farm was operating under the cover of a local HOA on the 17th floor of a building that was still under construction in Studgorodok. The farm was responsible for the illicit use of 5.8 million rubles worth of electricity.

“Interference in the functioning of the electrical system threatens with power spikes and emergency shutdowns,” Rosseti remarked with all responsibility, “not to mention the fact that offenders imperil not only their own lives but also the lives of others.”

In fact, however, the educational tone of the energy behemoth reeks of the most common form of hypocrisy. It is interesting to note that while Rosseti of Siberia is diligently recalculating the damage received from mining farms, the energy company is directly implying that there is a need for the triumph of justice. It is also noteworthy that, at the same time, the Rosseti of Siberia themselves were the perpetrators on another occasion. It would appear that this guilt is far greater and, more crucially, more serious than the deceptions committed by the miners.

The head of the Dzerzhinsk Electric Network is charged with a crime

It is a known truth that a criminal complaint has been filed against the head of the Dzerzhinsk Electric Networks of PJSC Rosseti Siberia-Krasnoyarskenergo in the Krasnoyarsk Region. This individual is accused of incompetence. Hence, the official failed to verify that the electrical grid was adequately prepared for the upcoming fire season. The facilities were not restored, and preventative measures against technological breaches were not implemented.

Consequences

As a consequence of this, on May 7, 2022, a short circuit took place in the power grid as a result of the contact of overhead lines with tree branches. Furthermore, as a consequence of the weather conditions, the fire spread and reached residential buildings in the villages of Kuray and Ashpatsk, which are located in the Dzerzhinsky district.

As a direct consequence of its actions, the fire was responsible for the destruction of more than a hundred homes and outbuildings. There were also two ladies who lost their lives. It was calculated that the activities of the official caused close to 190 million Russian rubles worth of harm.

At this time, the Dzerzhinsky District Court is considering the elements of the criminal case that fall under the article “negligence.” Babr is always up to date on the latest information.
