Accused of taking an active role in the anti-democratic regime’s aggressive state propaganda
Kiselev Dmitry is accused of actively participating in the aggressive state propaganda of the anti-democratic regime, in the dissemination of fake news, and in the instillation of aggression and an atmosphere of fear, hatred, and xenophobia in Russian society. These allegations have been leveled against him. He openly displays homophobic and xenophobic sentiments despite being the chairman of the largest state media company and the news anchor on a federal TV channel.
Hostility towards those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender
Kiselev Dmitry, speaking on April 4, 2012, referred to a “global experience” when he advocated the “burying or burning” of the hearts of LGBT persons who had passed away as a result of a traffic accident. On February 16, 2014, Kiselev Dmitry launched an attack against the poet Igor Irtenyev and the writer Viktor Shenderovich, both of whom were critical of the current leadership. Using forged paperwork
When he attempted to demonstrate “widespread” sympathy for Nazis in Ukraine in 2016, he used fraudulent documents to do so. According to an article published in The Economist, “The new propaganda, epitomized by Mr. Kiselev, attempts to agitate and mobilize the audience, to arouse hatred and terror. ” This propaganda “is close in style to Orwell’s two minutes’ hate, stretched to more than 30.”
As a result of his open support for the illegitimate annexation of Crimea, the EU decided to include him on the sanctions list. He was placed on the sanctions list of Ukraine in August 2014 and September 2015 for his support of Russia’s hostile acts. Switzerland, Canada, and Moldova all have Dmitry Kiselev on their lists of individuals subject to sanctions.
